ARTsmart offers a variety of after- and in-school programs, as well as independent programs in the ARTbarn for children ages kindergarten to eighteen. Additionally, ARTsmart sponsors numerous art projects, the results of which are sold during ARTfeast. In most high school projects, the proceeds are split between the student artists and their school art department.
The programs are conducted in the Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS), Espanola, and northern New Mexico pueblos. For more information please contact: Amanda Neiter, Program Director, 505.992.2787, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Working artists bring their skills and talents into the classrooms. These professionals create their own lesson plans, provide materials, prototypes, and teach students in hands-on artmaking. Every year, in conjunction with ARTfeast Santa Fe, ARTsmart designates an Honorary Artist, who agrees to mentor high school students in a hands-on art project.
This after-school art instruction program serves kindergarten through seventh-grade students in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico. It is semester-based and runs for one to three hours at elementary schools and community centers.
This weekly program serves kindergarten through sixth-grade students in elementary schools in Santa Fe, Española, and Native American pueblos. Hands-on arts training takes place throughout the school year, meeting developmental needs of specific age groups and reinforcing each school’s academic goals.
ARTfeast “I Made It!” Plate Project
More than 1,000 fifth- and sixth-grade SFPS students participate in this annual program of creating place mats whose themes are inspired by their SFPS art teachers. The ARTsmart Board selects approximately 100 of the place-mat designs. Students then paint their designs on both large and small plates that are ceramic fired. The large plates are auctioned at ARTfeast events to fund ARTsmart programs. The small plates are retained by the student artists. The laminated place mats are used at place settings during ARTsmart events, and attendees are encouraged to take them home.
ARTcamp serves students ages 5 to 13 during spring break and the summer months.
ARTsmart Greeting Cards
Throughout the year, SFPS elementary students create one-of-a-kind art cards on materials provided by ARTsmart. These colorful 5-by-7 inch cards (full size 10-by-7 inches) are made on textured, cream card stock with a deckled edge and an original handmade design on the front, with a matching envelope. There is plenty of interior space to pen a note, and on the back you’ll find the child’s name, school, and age. Cards are available through the ARTsmart offices. They make great personalized and frame-able gifts!
